1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.
2 In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.
4 And you know the way to the place where I am going.”
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
7 If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Messiah Is the Way into the Father’s Presence
A. Do not let your hearts be troubled; believe.
John 14:1
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.”
B. The Father’s house contains many dwelling places.
John 14:2a
“In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places.”
C. Messiah goes ahead to prepare a place.

“I go to prepare a place for you.”
D. Messiah will gather the disciples into his presence.

30 The Lord your God, who goes before you, is the one who will fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your very eyes
31 and in the wilderness, where you saw how the Lord your God carried you, just as one carries a child, all the way that you traveled until you reached this place.
32 But in spite of this, you have no trust in the Lord your God,

God Goes Before His People, Yet They Struggle to Trust
A. Do not surrender to fear.
Deuteronomy 1:29
“Have no dread or fear of them.”
B. The Lord goes before you.
Deuteronomy 1:30a
“The Lord your God, who goes before you, is the one who will fight for you.”
C. God demonstrated divine power in Egypt.

PaRDeS REFLECTION
Peshat: The Plain Meaning
Moses reminds Israel that God went before them, fought for them, carried them, searched out their campsites, and showed them the route. In John, Messiah comforts troubled disciples by promising that departure is not abandonment. He goes ahead to prepare a place and identifies himself as the Way to the Father.
Remez: The Hint
The fire, cloud, wilderness camp, Father’s house, dwelling places, and prepared way all point toward divine presence. God guides Israel through visible signs. Messiah teaches the disciples that the sign of guidance becomes personal presence.
Derash: The Teaching
The church cannot tell frightened people, “Do not fear,” while refusing to go before them. If God places divine presence before the vulnerable, then the community of faith must reflect that pattern in care, justice, refuge, and solidarity. To teach trust is also to create spaces where trust can be practiced.
Sod: The Hidden Mystery
God prepares a makom, a place, because God is HaMakom, the Place. The deepest promise is not merely that we will arrive somewhere better. The deepest promise is that wherever the road leads, our lives remain held within God. The dwelling place is not only a future room. The dwelling place is communion: “where I am, there you may be also.”

There are roads God shows us, and there are roads God carries us through.

The Way is not only where we walk. It is how we live and whom we follow.
5. אֱמוּנָה — Emunah
Faithfulness, steadfastness, or trust
Our trust may tremble, but God’s faithfulness does not.
